I know my strengths are focused on client-facing interactions every day. Having a team member early on who would have been able to help with all of the bookkeeping and metric tracking to see just how much we have grown year over year would have been nice. We started with $0 in 2020, and now we are serving over 1,000 hot tubs a month. It would have been nice to have someone tracking our growth through the years.

Every one of them! I look back and can now appreciate that I was not the best technical choice for any particular task (but, at first, I was the only choice). If I did a good job of hiring someone to perform that task, they are always better. Lesson learned: Delegate early and often. Control is your enemy, not your strength. Try to step back from your day-to-day operation as much and as soon as you can.

None. I started delegating years ago. I’ve always believed in promoting from within and giving people the opportunity to grow into bigger roles. That approach has paid off — two longtime members of my team now own part of Heavenly Times, and the plan is for them to fully buy me out over the next 10 years. It’s incredibly rewarding and a fantastic outcome for them, for me and for the entire organization.
