BioLab introduces rapid-dissolve tabs for its SpaGuard product line
For years, BioLab’s SpaGuard water care line has epitomized premium spa care, offering a range of solutions to elevate the hot tubbing experience. Now, the company is introducing a game-changer — rapid-dissolve tabs designed to redefine convenience and precision for spa owners.
One recurring headache for many owners has been the precise dosing of chemicals.
“We looked at some of the pain points customers have, and one of those is figuring out exactly how much they are supposed to add,” says Brian Trenck, technical services manager for BioLab. “It’s teaspoons, it’s tablespoons, it’s ounces, it’s fluid ounces — there’s a lot of discussion.”
Enter the rapid-dissolve tabs: a single-dose solution offering a hassle-free approach by simplifying dosing to just one tab per 300 gallons, one of the most common spa capacities. “It’s hard to be one-size-fits-all, but you can definitely be one-size-fits-most,” Trenck says.
The suite of SpaGuard tabs includes alkalinity increasers, pH decreasers, stain and scale tabs, shock tabs and chlorinating tabs (not yet available in Canada), taking spa owners from start-up to draining. While most people think of traditional tabs as slow-dissolving, the SpaGuard tabs dissolve quickly, as the name implies — typically anywhere from three to six minutes when applied to the filter as instructed, allowing the product to begin working immediately.
SpaGuard’s innovation extends its benefits to swim spas, traditionally even more difficult to correctly dose.
“A swim spa, for the most part, is no different than a normal spa,” Trenck says. “It’s just a lot more volume. It still requires a fair amount of product, but [calculating the number of tabs to use is] a lot easier.”
Behind the scenes, the creation of these tabs involved rigorous bench and field testing. “We take product development very seriously,” Trenck says. “We don’t just throw something together in a bottle. We know it works. [We have] a systematic approach to looking at things.”
The development process also included dealer feedback, something Jamie Novak, director of pro brands marketing at BioLab, says she is proud of. BioLab created a dealer council to review label concepts and provide helpful input.
Dealers are embracing the product upgrade with enthusiasm, recognizing the progress it has made toward increasing convenience. “Spa dealers and consumers are looking for innovation, and this checks that box,” Novak says.
Matt Pagano, retail operations manager at North Carolina-based Cayman Pool and Spa, believes this product is precisely what spa owners need.
“Customers have been known to ‘eyeball it’ when using loose granules, which leads to constant readjusting,” he says. “Having the convenience of adding tablets as opposed to measuring out product will take all the guesswork out of the equation.”
The SpaGuard rapid-dissolve tabs are available through dealers across the U.S. and Canada, ready to enhance the hot water experience for spa owners.
“Nobody gets a hot tub or a swim spa to labor over it,” Novak says. “They get it to enjoy it. So anything that we can provide from an innovation perspective is incredibly important.”
