The Ludlows were born and bred in the pool and spa industry. Jeff Ludlow is the third-generation owner of Dolphin Pools & Spas and his brother David Ludlow branched out from the family store to start Bullfrog Spas.
“We were pretty much raised in the industry and from the time we were little kids we were working either in the shop or out on jobs with [my father] and here we are today,” says Jeff Ludlow, who recently bought his father out and now is the sole owner of the business.
Ludlow says that while service isn’t a huge revenue source in itself, it brings in repeat and referral business in a big way. So his company is committed to doing it well.
“We try to maintain our staff as long as possible,” Ludlow says. “We train them almost non-stop, sending them to seminars and training, whether they’re through a manufacturer like Bullfrog or BioGuard or the national APSP accredited classes.”
Dolphin Pools & Spas also has a strict training program for all of their hot tub and pool technicians, requiring them to pass a series of tests and work with a mentor before heading out on their own.
“I know there’s no other service department around us that trains their technicians the way we do,” Ludlow says. “We have a process and line up of very strong training.”
