Katherine Brown has been part of Hansen’s Pool & Spa for as long as she can remember — literally. “I’ve grown up within the company,” she says, recalling days spent stocking shelves, assisting customers in their backyards and eventually making sales on the showroom floor. That hands-on immersion in nearly every role has molded her into the leader she is today. Now serving as both general manager and co-owner, she draws on that broad experience to guide the business with insight and confidence.

“My dad started the company, and both he and my mom have created something really special that they worked extremely hard for,” Brown says. “What’s most rewarding for me is that I know my efforts are making them proud.” That fuels her commitment not only to the family legacy but also to the community the company serves. She delights in seeing the joy on customers’ faces — especially those who leave the store beaming after purchasing a hot tub. “How cool is it that we get to sell products that support both physical and mental health while also helping people create lasting memories with their loved ones?” Brown says.

In recent years, Brown has transitioned from the fast-paced rhythm of daily operations to the broader scope of ownership. Sharing responsibility has been a key part of that evolution. “Delegating isn’t always easy, but I’ve learned that it empowers team members to take ownership in their roles,” she explains. This has allowed her to focus on big-picture strategy while fostering growth in her team. Over the past year, she’s dedicated more time to formalizing employee training — creating clear paths for new hires and ensuring long-standing staff have resources to excel.

Brown hopes hot tub manufacturers will invest more in nationwide marketing to elevate awareness about hot tub ownership. “As retailers, we do what we can to market in our local communities, but if the big brands were actively educating and inspiring homeowners, it could elevate the entire industry,” she says.

Away from the demands of the business, Brown juggles life as a working mom of two young children. She’s recently fallen in love with audiobooks — perfect for listening while commuting or tackling household chores. Weekends often find her and her family at a local coffee shop, enjoying music or spending time outdoors.
