Power Women: Lisa Kennedy

Lisa Kennedy
General manager, TCG Wellness
Burlington, Ontario

For two decades, Lisa Kennedy has dedicated her expertise to The Cover Guy, a prominent brand under TCG Wellness, but her industry experience dates back even further.

Lisa’s advice for women in the industry: “Be confident and be kind. You have to advocate for yourself. To do that, you need confidence, and to have confidence you need to know your worth. Dig deep within yourself to recognize your amazing worth. And in all situations, be kind.  Kindness always wins and shows exactly the person you are.”

In 2001, she started as a receptionist at Beachcomber Hot Tubs before moving into customer service and sales development, setting the stage for the rest of her career — which could have been much different, considering Kennedy went to school to be a police officer.

“This industry sucked me in and never let me go — and it’s been amazing,” she says.

Her favorite part of her career at TCG Wellness — makers of custom hot tub and swim spa covers — is the people she works with. She emphasizes the supportive environment fostered by her team.

“This company allows me to continually grow and learn new things, and they allow me to be proud of what I have accomplished,” she says. “I love supporting my staff and hopefully having a positive impact on their personal and professional growth.”

The hot tub industry is not only fun but also has real implications for health and wellness, she says, citing the rising demand for products like cold tubs and saunas.

“We’re helping customers create their backyard oasis, which is helping their well-being,” she says. “We have a huge opportunity to educate our consumers when it comes to wellness.”

Kennedy is also committed to sharing education and resources within the industry; she currently serves as vice president of the Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada

“This industry is part of who I am, and I always want to do something to give back to what it’s given me — [to help] companies within our industry in Canada face some of those challenges and see what we can do to support them,” she says.

Kennedy aims to mentor aspiring women in the industry, recognizing how hard it can be with women underrepresented in leadership roles. However, she points to a positive trend during her career of more women stepping into high-level jobs.

“Twenty years ago, there were hardly any women in the industry, and if there were, they weren’t in leadership roles,” she says. “The way that we support each other has opened the door for other women to come in and rise up. That supportive culture we have in the industry now is amazing; it’s booming, and it’s getting us further.”

Kennedy says it is an honor to be considered a power woman, especially after reviewing previous honorees and realizing how many of them she knows.

As for her definition of a power woman?

“[Being] a power woman means I have contributed to the growth and evolution of our industry,” she says. “It means I have made a positive impact on other women in our industry and encouraged and supported them to do the same for others. You put confidence and kindness together, and then you have a power woman.”
