Covana: The Smarter Spa Cover

Innovative design, easy use and built-in ambiance make Covana covers stand out

Covana, a Canada-based manufacturer of fully automated hot tub and swim spa covers, is constantly refining its products using feedback from its global retailer market.

“Our main objective is simplifying the installation process,” says sales director Sylvain Daigle. “We have made several changes that meet that objective and continue to innovate in ways that will make our future products much easier to install.” Recent upgrades, such as the quieter Oasis motor and the new Midnight version, highlight Covana’s commitment to ongoing refinement.

Daigle emphasizes Covana covers will always require professional installation — a model that supports the company’s retailer partnerships.

Jeromie Kirk, chief financial officer of HotSpring Spas & Pool Tables 2, agrees that this dealer-first approach adds value.

“I consider them a partner, not just a supplier,” Kirk says. “Their customer service has evolved with their products, and they are available when you need assistance, from ordering parts to technical install questions.”

Sleeker and smarter

Designed in response to the growing popularity of black spa covers and consumer interest in nighttime soaking, the Midnight version of the Oasis has a dramatic black ceiling and roof.

“If you think about it, a lot of hot tubbers use their tubs at night, so our white inside acted as a contrast with the sky,” Daigle says. “[Now with the black ceiling and roof,] there is less clash with the sky, and combined with our LED ambiance lights, it makes for a beautiful inside.”

The Midnight features a LED lighting system that cycles from calming tones to festive colors, turning the cover into an extension of the spa experience — whether for quiet meditation or entertaining guests. The model’s sloped roof also minimizes water and snow accumulation, reducing upkeep and extending the life of the cover.

Kirk says these details make it easier to position the Oasis as a lifestyle upgrade rather than just a functional accessory. “Our goal is for you to use your hot tub as much as possible,” he says. “It doesn’t get much easier than turning a key and opening your Oasis in 20 seconds.”

Kirk adds that Covana’s products are as tough as they are convenient. “We are in North Dakota, and we would not offer Covana if they did not withstand extreme winter weather,” Kirk says.

Expanding shade and privacy

Privacy shades and screens remain an essential part of Covana’s design, providing a buffer from sun, rain and neighbors.

For the Oasis Midnight, Covana broadened its screen program to include designs in varying opacity levels, allowing users to decide how secluded — or open — they want their spa sessions to feel. Options range from subtle patterns like Blue Velvet or Zen to bold, nature-inspired designs such as Island and Rockies. For those seeking full immersion, panoramic murals like Rainforest transform a backyard.

For the Midnight version, a Rocky Mountain-inspired shade was introduced for Canadian and U.S. mountain markets.

“It has exceeded our expectations and has become our largest selling version by being almost 60% of our sales,” Daigle says. “It also inspired us to go with black interiors only for our other color combination.”

The easier you make it to use your product, the more people will use it, so we like to think [our products] contribute to hot tub and swim spa sales.”

Retailers like Kirk see these options as key selling points.

“Investing in a Covana [cover] allows privacy without adding permanent structures or landscaping to your space,” he says. “It’s also mobile, so you can take it with your hot tub or swim spa if you move.”

Innovation with purpose

Covana continues to push design boundaries on models like the Legend swim spa cover.

“We had a lot of requests for screens on our Legend model for swim spas, which is an engineering challenge due to not having the four legs on each corner, and having a length of up to 20 feet,” Daigle says. “However, we were able to cover the center part of the swim spa, which helps a lot when people are training in the sun, and [also provides] some privacy.”

Daigle says these innovations stem from a core focus: making products easier and more enjoyable to use.

“Consumers are looking for ease of use,” Daigle says. “The easier you make it to use your product, the more people will use it, so we like to think [our products] contribute to hot tub and swim spa sales.”
