For 70 years, Jacuzzi has pioneered hot tub design, bringing health and relaxation to millions. Now, its new J5 Collection sets a next-level standard in backyard luxury.
Erica Moir, senior vice president for product design, marketing and engineering innovation at Jacuzzi in Chino, California, says this new line of hot tubs will bring an elevated experience like nothing in the industry.
“As we celebrate our 70th anniversary, we felt it was a great time to really reimagine what the ultimate experience in this category is — by the inventor of the category,” Moir says.
The Jacuzzi family immigrated from Italy in the early 1900s, shifting from aviation to agriculture before inventing the world’s first submersible pump. The J5’s design nods to those aviation roots, even taking its name from the original Jacuzzi airplane.
“You will also see an ‘Easter egg’ that harkens back to our aviation history in the new jet styling,” Moir says.
The driving vision behind the J5 was to design a product that was refreshingly consumer-centered. Moir says the J5 is meant to be an immersive experience, personalized for the consumer beyond ergonomics and jet placement. Based on customer feedback, a full infrared therapy seat was added, and lighting, sound, pump intensity and temperature can all be adapted to customer preferences. If a user isn’t sure where to start, the system also comes with preset wellness experiences.
Moir says all the possible user and owner cases were considered during the research and development phase. While the J5 is considered a luxury product, it’s capable of catering to a variety of customer needs and seasons of life.
“We wanted a product that connected with you and could be personalized — a product that is helpful, easy and intuitive like nothing in our industry,” Moir explains. “This meant we spent a lot of time analyzing how a person interacts with the spa and developing experiences in both the controls and the app that are unique and patented by us.”
Vincent Mansueto, sales manager for Johnson Pool & Spa in Windsor, California, says everything a customer could want or need in a hot tub comes standard in the J5.
“The J5 is by far the most impressive hot tub I’ve ever seen — pairing customer-focused features with Jacuzzi’s signature innovation,” Mansueto says.
Does your customer want low chlorine levels or an easy way to test their water? What about an entertainment centerpiece? Or equipment breakthroughs in wellness? Mansueto says all this, plus light, music and ambiance, come together in the J5 to offer “the best in the industry.”
Inspired by luxury cars, Jacuzzi’s design team studied intuitive vehicle dashboards — even test-driving cars to bring the same sleek interface to the J5’s controls.
Mansueto confirms the revamped control panel provides a customer interface that feels like navigating a luxury car dashboard.
“It’s informative and intuitive, something we are definitely eager to show our customers,” Mansueto says. “We plan on having one filled and featured in our showroom alongside a swim spa with decking, showcasing how the extravagant design could be presented in a backyard. With all the innovations and expanded features this spa has to offer, it is a must-see.”
Moir says feedback from dealer partners and internal teams has been positive, with most reacting to the styling and ergonomics tied to Jacuzzi’s updated aesthetic.
“They love the fact that a spa owner no longer removes the front cabinet for maintenance access,” Moir says. “The integration of the smart sensors has been so welcomed as a seamless, thoughtful user-delighter.”
The J5 is set to replace the J400 Collection, and Moir hopes it will introduce a wellness experience to people not currently looking at hot tubs.
“I am so proud of our team working from the ground up to redefine what a luxury Jacuzzi product is — putting the consumer experience first,” Moir says.
