Q: What are the benefits of being where you are geographically?
We consider ourselves extremely fortunate that we’re in eastern Ontario. Eastern Ontario through the last 16 or 18 months of recession, we haven’t really seen much affect of it. There’s a lot of great employment in the area, there’s a lot of government employment, which all of these things are fairly stable. So, I think our economy, based on our geographical location, has been reasonably stable, which has helped us just continue moving forward.
Q: How would you like to see your business grow in the next few years?
Years and years ago when I was 18, I asked my father why he was selling the business and I think his comments to me were, ‘Well, it’s getting too big.’ And my comment being 18 years old was, ‘How can it get too big? You just hire more people and you grow with the business.’ Now, here I am 20 some years later probably in his same shoes and having to deal with the same concerns. And that’s it, bigger is not always better. What we’ve tried to do the last four to six years is know that we’re looking after our existing customers. Certainly, we want to add new customers every year, but not add them at the rate where we can’t look after them or after our existing ones. So, we’re just trying to slow that growth down so that it doesn’t get away on us and we can take the time to build our team so that we can grow it all together.
