Michael Kitchen, 32
Jacuzzi Ontario/Wellness Shop,
Chief operating officer
Burlington, Ontario
Michael Kitchen stumbled into the hot tub industry 15 years ago to get himself through college.
“I started humbly, performing water tests and stocking shelves at Jacuzzi Ontario’s Mississauga location,” he says.
Soon, Kitchen ventured into opening new store locations, which paved the way for broader responsibilities, eventually leading him into regional management and later, director of retail for more than 10 Jacuzzi Ontario stores.
“Four years ago, I made a pivotal decision to transition to the service and operations side of the business, a move that would redefine my career,” he says. “Joining Jacuzzi Ontario [now Wellness Shop] as chief operating officer, I embraced the chance to apply my expertise in a new capacity.”
For Kitchen, knowing the difference his products can have on customers’ lives is a great motivator.
“Whether it’s helping a family find the perfect hot tub for their backyard oasis or assisting someone with therapeutic needs, the joy and satisfaction in knowing that I’ve played a part in enhancing their quality of life is unparalleled,” he says.
If given the chance to change one thing about the industry, Kitchen would like to make it more inclusive and accessible.
“This could involve initiatives to make hot tubs more affordable, ensuring that cost doesn’t become a barrier,” Kitchen says. “Additionally, efforts to design and innovate hot tubs with features that cater to individuals with mobility challenges or specific health needs would help ensure that everyone can enjoy the transformative power of hydrotherapy.”
As he champions these advances, Kitchen would like to be remembered as a catalyst for positive change and innovation.
“By embracing opportunities for growth, collaboration and mentorship, I am confident that we can not only achieve our organizational goals but also inspire positive change and elevate the industry,” he says.
