Spazazz: A Scented Solution

Spazazz Aroma Spa Shock enhances the hot tub experience

Imagine transforming your hot tub into a sanctuary of soothing scents while simultaneously keeping the water crystal clear. That’s the promise behind Spazazz’s Aroma Spa Shock, the latest innovation from the Utah-based aromatherapy company. The product breaks down contaminants, oils and impurities in spa water while scenting the water.

According to Arie McKell from Spazazz, its dual-purpose nature makes this product stand out from other spa shocks on the market.

“We [use] oxidizing, chlorine-free shock,” she says. “That is the key component of Aroma Spa Shock. [Typically], when you use spa shock, it’s burning to the eyes and the smell is terrible. Our aromatherapy helps with the smell, and the essence of it remains in the water as the oxidizer filters through, so you still will have the experience of the essential aroma.”

Aroma Spa Shock comes 33 years after Spazazz launched its aromatherapy salts specifically made for hot tubs to avoid damaging filters or pumps. Over the years, the company’s collections expanded to include scents like coconut, kiwi pear and sangria. Spazazz also has a line of CBD salts and a full-body hemp soak.

Aroma Spa Shock comes in three scents: Lavender Isle, Tropical Paradise and Mentha Grove, which blends peppermint and eucalyptus — but the company is open to creating more scents.

It treats the water, breaks down the contaminants and quickly dissolves. It helps with water clarity. It’s easy.”

The product’s active ingredient is monopersulfate, a chlorine-free oxidizer, which is the clarifying additive that helps remove bacteria in hot tubs, says Angie Pettro, the founder of Spazazz.

The Pool and Hot Tub Recreational Water Quality Committee says monopersulfate uses reactive oxygen to destroy contaminants in water like those found in sweat, urine and wind-blown debris. As a nonchlorine oxidizer, monopersulfate’s role is to react with organic contaminants, reducing the load for the primary sanitizer, to help maintain or restore water clarity.

Pettro says Aroma Spa Shock is easy and quick to use — simply sprinkle in one scoop for every 200 gallons of water.

“It treats the water, breaks down the contaminants and quickly dissolves,” she says. “It helps with water clarity. It’s easy.” Pettro says this product can also be used in a pool, as long as the correct dosage is applied.

Aroma Spa Shock can also be combined with the rest of Spazazz’s aromatherapy products.

“You sprinkle [the Spa Shock] in your hot tub 15 minutes before you’re going to hop in,” McKell says. “When you go back out, you can put another Spazazz product in, and it just enhances the aromatherapy.”

McKell says retailers and customers have been excited about Aroma Spa Shock, and the product was named a Top 50 New Product in 2024.

“The feedback we’ve been given is awesome,” McKell says. “Everyone’s loving it. They’re like, ‘If I have to use a shock anyway, why not have aromatherapy?
