Gecko waterlab takes the guesswork out of water monitoring
Using surveys and interviews, Gecko Alliance, a designer and manufacturer of hot tub solutions, learned water maintenance was the No. 1 challenge for spa owners.
After researching current water maintenance solutions, Gecko found most, if not all, water monitoring devices floated on the surface, leading to water infiltration and shortening the product lifespan.
The company also noticed many water monitors ran on batteries and required regular upkeep, such as replacing consumables like probes or cassettes often. Even if the device successfully monitored the spa’s pH and sanitation levels, it wasn’t always clear what was needed to ensure proper water balance.
Their solution: Gecko waterlab.
Waterlab not only monitors spa temperature, pH and ORP and reports it through the same app that controls the spa but also includes a recommendation engine to notify and guide the user with the right dosing of their own chemicals making it simple to maintain clean and safe water.
To create the water monitor, Gecko teamed up with General Galactic.
“General Galactic, the company that owns Crystal Water Monitor, was instrumental in guiding us through the development of our product,” says CEO Jean-François Ferland. “Their innovative and modern approach to software and IoT solutions combined with our know-how in the spa industry helped us engineer a truly hassle-free and easy-to-use solution,” Ferland says.
The respect between Gecko and General Galactic is mutual.
“They’re building what I think is the best in-line water chemistry monitoring solution in hot tubs,” says Justin Miller, co-founder and CEO of General Galactic.
New hot tubs can have the Gecko waterlab system built in, while owners of existing hot tubs can retrofit the product to fit their setup.
“It alleviates the burden of water maintenance and allows owners to keep the water clean and safe at all times,” Miller says.
Gecko hopes waterlab will be the face of water monitoring in the hot tub industry, contributing to the company’s goal of elevating the spa experience and promoting well-being.
We aim to equip spa owners with smart technology that can optimize energy consumption, reduce costs and reduce maintenance burden.”

“This extends beyond topside and control systems to encompass holistic solutions,” Ferland says. “With the new Gecko myspa mobile app, we aim to equip spa owners with smart technology that can optimize energy consumption, reduce costs and reduce maintenance burden, ultimately enhancing the overall wellness experience.”
As the first fully integrated water monitor designed for hot tubs, the company eagerly awaits feedback from spa dealers following Gecko waterlab’s debut at the International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo in November.
“The Gecko myspa app will continuously evolve with new features to better address the needs of spa owners to maximize their wellness experience,” Ferland says.
Following the launch in North America, Gecko plans to introduce Gecko waterlab to the global market at Piscine Global in Lyon, France.
