Jacuzzi adds infrared light therapy to its swim spa line
Jacuzzi is taking the health benefits of its swim spas a step further by introducing infrared and red light therapy technology.
Initially launched in its hot tubs in 2023, the company has expanded this technology into its PowerActive and PowerPro swim spa models. Infrared and red light therapy are light-based treatments that can offer pain relief, reduce inflammation and promote cell rejuvenation.
Infrared therapy, which uses invisible light waves, penetrates deep into muscle tissue, helping to alleviate pain and inflammation. This method not only encourages cell regeneration and repair but also supports deep tissue healing. Reds light therapy, which uses visible light, focuses on surface tissues and cells, promoting healing at the skin level. Combined, these therapies can improve blood circulation, enhance cardiovascular health and support muscle recovery.
Jacuzzi leaders worked with the Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit academic medical center, to study these therapies. After seeing the benefits, they partnered with a developer to identify the exact wavelength output for near-infrared and red light therapy in water and incorporated it into Jacuzzi hot tubs. The natural progression was adding it to its swim spas.
The Jacuzzi team says the combination of infrared and red light therapy can “ensure a long-lasting feeling of regeneration.” Combined with the exercise features of a swim spa, the PowerActive and PowerPro models can serve as at-home gyms, says Suzi Rush, senior product manager at Jacuzzi.
Rush emphasizes the holistic approach Jacuzzi takes with these features.
We like to combine [features] so you get more benefits without having to do something extra— it helps to enhance the wellness benefits of the product.”

“We like to combine [features] so you get more benefits without having to do something extra — it helps to enhance the wellness benefits of the product,” Rush says. “It’s about what the product does to fit in with your lifestyle and your routine.”
The FX-IR swim spa seat was developed to deliver precise hydromassage to the back and neck with infrared and red light therapy on the lower back. Kelly Boyce from Columbia Pool and Spa in Missouri notes this combination of exercise and therapy makes the swim spas particularly beneficial.
“[With customers], we discuss the benefits of [infrared and red light therapy] rejuvenating the muscles after a workout, which when combined with the massage of the PowerPro jets, creates a deeper, more effective experience,” Boyce says.
Infrared therapy can also help alleviate chronic pain. The World Health Organization estimates 619 million people worldwide suffer from lower back pain, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report nearly half of adults with arthritis suffer from persistent pain. With body aches and pains being so prevalent, the deep-penetrating infrared light can offer relief.

Although not yet a common request among spa customers, infrared and red light therapy are becoming a mainstream treatment found in physical therapy offices and recommended by dermatologists and other doctors.
“By and large, consumers have no idea that infrared is even an option in hot tubs and swim spas,” Rush says. “People who have used the product see that after a few uses, you feel the benefits and see that your lower back feels more flexible with consistent use of the infrared therapy.”
Although infrared therapy has been common in saunas, Jacuzzi is the first and currently only brand to incorporate it into hot tubs and swim spas.
“It really ties into our broader strategy of making Jacuzzi swim spas connected to Jacuzzi hot tubs, [providing] consistency for the customers,” Rush says. “You know what the Jacuzzi brand stands for when it comes to your well-being.”
