Dustin O’Con — 30 Under 40 2026
Twenty years in one industry is an accomplishment at any age. Dustin O’Con reached that mark before turning 40.
O’Con joined his family’s business, Cedar Works Spa & Sauna in Eugene, Oregon, after high school in 2005. Over the two decades since, he has worked across sales, repair and management, spending approximately 14 years as the company’s head technician.
His technical ability and friendly manner have made an impression on customers, who regularly call Cedar Works specifically to praise his work. For O’Con, though, one of the greatest rewards has been building his career alongside his family.
Fifteen years ago, O’Con and his wife learned that their first child had a rare genetic disease and would require extensive medical care. During their son’s first year, O’Con worked most of the week before traveling two hours to be with his family at Oregon Health & Science University. His son is now 15 and able to live at home with in-home care.
That experience adds another dimension to the professional accomplishment O’Con identifies with the most pride: reaching his 20-year anniversary at Cedar Works in 2025.
Those years have given him experience throughout the customer relationship, from helping people select products to diagnosing problems and keeping the operation running. In a family business, that breadth has often meant moving between roles as the needs of customers and the company change.
It has also prepared O’Con for what he hopes will eventually be his next role: owner. He plans to purchase and run Cedar Works as his parents move toward retirement, continuing the business where he has spent his entire career.
Another generation may eventually follow. O’Con’s 13-year-old daughter has expressed interest in joining him one day, creating the possibility that Cedar Works will remain a family business well into the future.
Away from hot tubs and saunas, O’Con enjoys auto repair, camping and off-road activities.
